Tegucigalpa and Comayagua

The state capital of Tegucigalpa was founded in 1524 as a mining town. The beautiful city parks, particularly Concordia (interesting models of Mayan monuments of Copan) and the UN-Park, which offers a magnificent view over the town, invite you to take long walks. Not far from Tegucigalpa there to visit the La Tigra National Park with its spectacular cloud forest mist. About 80 km from Tegucigalpa is Comayagua, former capital. You will feel transported back to colonial times: cobbled streets, small squares and white houses make up the charm of this city as the Cathedral and many churches. 34 km from Tegucigalpa is the world-famous Escuela Panamericana Agrcola the Agricultural Institute students from around the world.

The Caribbean Coast

La Ceiba, at the foot of Pico Bonito (1500 m), is still a major transshipment point for bananas. One likes to party in this port city and not just during the carnival. The virgin forest of Pico Bonito provides habitat for a variety of wildlife and can also be explored as the fascinating flora on expeditions.

Trujillo

Trujillo was once a busy port and in the colonial capital of Honduras. The mysterious pirate past, tropical beaches and old Spanish colonial buildings are the attractions of this beautiful city. New travel sites are currently being developed in this area.


Islas de la Baha

This exotic archipelago located 50 km off the Caribbean coast and consists of three major islands Roatn, Guanaja and Utila, as well as many smaller islands (cays). The history of these islands may be the British colonial empire and the Spanish privateer traced back to the Mayans. The mountainous, lush islands Roatn and Guanaja are protected by a coral reef, which is a true diver’s paradise. Utila has long sandy beaches and is surrounded by many small, palm-covered cays.

San Pedro Sula

San Pedro Sula is the largest industrial and commercial center (bananas and sugar) in the North Coast with a new airport, excellent hotels, attractive shops and several good restaurants. Nearby is the Cusuco National Park.

COPN

The pretty village of COPN is 171 km away from San Pedro Sula. The impressive ruins at the Archeological Park at COPN witness the fascinating Mayan culture. The court and temple buildings, the great ball court, a huge amphitheater, and the hieroglyphic staircase are particularly impressive. In the great Acropolis great discoveries have been made, the sculptures are in the COPN Museum. The homes of the Maya, who were also exposed to give, for the first time information about their everyday lives.
