In the fishing village Msasani, about 8 km from the capital, one can tombs from the 17th Century visit. In the south of Kilwa Kisiwani there are ruins to explore Arabic and Portuguese.
In the area of Dar es Salaam are numerous beaches, particularly recommended are Kunduchi, Mjimwena Mbwa and Maji. The fishing village Kunduchi is about 24 km north of the capital. Close by are ruins of Persian tombs and mosques. The Bahri and the Kunduchi Beach Hotel located 3 km away from the island Mbudya. The uninhabited island belongs to a protected coral reef and is ideal for diving, snorkeling and fishing. The African Vacation Village on the peninsula near Kunduchi is another independent resort. The island of Sinda (14 km from Dar es Salaam) provides ideal conditions for snorkeling and shell collecting.
72 km north of Dar es Salaam is Bagamoyo. The small town is located near Zanzibar in a beautiful bay with beautiful beaches. The mosque and Arab tombs to the 18th and 19 Century back. 5 km south is the village Kaole, the nearby mosque and columns should be 800 years old. The second largest port city in the country, Tanga, is an ideal starting point for excursions to the Usambara Mountains and to Moshi at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Dar es Salaam
The port city and former capital of Dar es Salaam is an ideal starting point for any holiday stay in Tanzania. From the airport of Kilimanjaro, Dodoma (the new capital) and Zanzibar within easy reach. One can observe wild animals of all kinds, fishing, and perform a variety of water sports. The beaches for swimming and sunbathing. This busy metropolis has some of the sights: The National Museum, the Observatory and the University of Dar es Salaam and the village museum with examples of traditional architecture and traditional arts.
Zanzibar and Mafia Island
The island of Zanzibar is only 20 minutes flight from Dar es Salaam. The city of Zanzibar is home to several impressive monuments – the Old Stone Town was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The houses are built in the old city of glittering coral blocks and are characterized by numerous balconies. The former home of the British explorer Dr. Livingstone is worth visiting. The Anglican Cathedral was built on the ruins of the old slave market. Before the palace of the Sultan and the Beit-el-Ajaib (House of Wonder) today at the port still picturesque dhows glide past. Surrounded by tropical vegetation and fragrant spice plantations you come across palaces, fortresses, aqueducts and bath houses.

The island of Mafia is in about 40 minutes flight from Dar es Salaam are reached. Here there is a unique underwater world. The Mafia Iceland Lodge is popular with anglers from around the world. Motor boats and equipment for hire.
Kilimanjaro
The highest mountain in Africa with 5895 m attracts climbers from around the world. All ladders must be accompanied by a guide. Climbers should take about three days and take warm clothing. There are three rest huts at various altitudes in the last one should leave yourself enough time to acclimatise.
The National Parks
The 11 national parks in Tanzania covering an area of 33 660 sq km. In addition there is the unique Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a protected area in which the Masai guard continued their cattle, and ten other game reserves.
The world-famous Serengeti National Park covers an area of 14 763 sq km. In the richest wildlife reserve in Tanzania can be found including wildebeest, gazelles, zebras, elephants, lions and myriad bird species. Each year, there are the impressive north-south migration of the herds in search of pasture. Best time to visit: November to May.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area: This reserve lies between the Lake Natron in the northeast, the Enaysi Lake in the south and Lake Manyara in the east. The reserve is also the active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai (Mountain of God), who in 1994 broke out last time. The centerpiece of the park is the 610 m deep Ngorongoro Crater, which accounts for its 20 km in diameter and a total area of 311 sq km tenth of the sanctuary. The crater offers an incredibly rich fauna and habitat protection. U. a. here are zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, elephants, rhinos, leopards, lions, giraffes and buffalo home. The Magadi soda lake on the crater floor attracts many birds, especially flamingos.
Lake Manyara National Park: The Rift Valley forms the impressive backdrop of a region of forests, savannas, swamps and lake containing soda. The park is home to large herds of elephants in particular, but also buffalo, baboons, rhinos, impalas, lions, giraffes, leopards, zebras, other herd animals and various species of monkeys are found here. In Manyara, there are also many bird species.
The Arusha National Park is located in Ngurdoto crater that is about 250,000 years ago to a dormant volcano. Of particular viewpoints can buffalo, observe rhinos, elephants, giraffes and wart hogs.
Mikumi National Park: This reserve covers 1300 sq km. Here you can lions, zebras, hippos, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes see, impala, wildebeest and warthogs in the wild. A popular tourist destination is the Kikaboga Hippo pool, the bathing place of the hippos. Although December is the best time to visit through March, tours are available throughout the year.
Ruaha National Park: One of the world’s largest elephant conservation areas (about 118 km from Iringa) located in the southern highlands on a weather-proof road. One can also observe numerous species of antelope. The landscape of the Ruaha Gorge is an unforgettable experience. Flight and bus lines connect Iringa and Dar es Salaam and other cities. Best time to visit: July to November.
Tarangire National Park: This park is located about 130 km from Arusha and is 8 km away from the road that leads from the Cape of Good Hope to Cairo. The species diversity of this park is surpassed only by the Serengeti.
Gombe National Park: In the on the shores of Lake Tanganyika near Kigoma reserve located about 200 chimpanzees live. For about 30 years here the behavior of chimpanzees is researched and recorded.
Selous Game Reserve: The Selous Game Reserve in the south of the country is home to one of the largest elephant herds of the earth. Lions, hippos, crocodiles and other animals are also represented in large numbers. In 1982 the reserve was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can take walking safaris and river cruises with guides.
Other national parks in Tanzania Katavi, Kilimanjaro, Mahale Mountains, Rubondo and Udzungura Mountains. Then there are the sea and water conservation areas Kilwa Reserve, Tanga Coral Gardens, Delta and Latham Rufigi Iceland reserve.
