In the Turks and Caicos Islands there are 33 national parks, several nature reserves and historic sites. Despite the increasing numbers of visitors annually, the islands of the mass market has remained largely unscathed. Naturalness and eco-tourism are the key here.
The Caicos group
There are six main islands and many smaller cays are uninhabited, most of them.
The tourism focuses on the island of Providenciales, there are also the holiday resort of Club Med and the Ramada Turquoise Reef Resort. Beautiful beaches, stunning coastline, clear waters and colorful coral reefs which are the main attractions of the island. Most tourist facilities are there in the area of Turtle Cove and Grace Bay.
The fishing grounds around West Caicos are excellent. The deep waters offer excellent diving opportunities. The island is currently uninhabited and is only occasionally visited by adventurous fishermen and yacht owners as well as many thousands of seabirds.
North Caicos: On the long, deserted white sandy beaches are the hotel complexes, Prospect of Whitby, Ocean Beach and Pelican Beach. You can relax here in absolute peace and solitude or take walks.
Pine Cay offers one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caicos Islands. Here is the Meridian Club, one of the best resorts in the archipelago. Pine Cay is part of the Caicos Cays underwater national parks. The coral reefs of the Caicos Bank bjieten a fascinating underwater world.
Parrot Cay lies between Providenciales and North Caicos. On the previously uninhabited island was an exclusive resort.
On Middle Caicos and Grand Caicos, there are no hotels and resorts. The island is known for the hospitality of its inhabitants. The island is blessed with a very romantic coast, west of Conch Bar is the jagged coast is pretty strong, and small bays. The caves on the island are impressive.
East Caicos: On this uninhabited island has some of the best beaches in the Caribbean.
The City of Cockburn Harbour is located on a small mountain range in the extreme southwest of South Caicos. A colorful display provide the boats, loaded to create each day of Cap Hatien on Haiti, with fruit and vegetables here. Cockburn Harbour is a quiet friendly place in the evening walks are very popular. During the day people in one of the many beaches in the sun lounging. As everywhere in the islands of Turks and Caicos archipelago, the visitor will also find excellent opportunities for deep sea fishing, sports and amusement rides and, not least for diving.
The Turks group
This island group is smaller and is separated by the Columbus Passage, 35 km away from the Caicos Islands, and consists of two main islands and several small, uninhabited cays.
Grand Turk is only a few minutes by air from South Caicos, and is the historical and cultural center in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The small island’s capital, Cockburn is the county seat and economic center of the entire archipelago. On Front Street a few buildings from the colonial period are with beautiful gardens. Right on the coast, the Turks and Caicos National Museum, where you can visit the oldest shipwreck in America as well as manuscripts, prints and artifacts of the culture and history of the islands. On the east coast there are numerous beautiful bays. You can dive and fish to your heart’s content on Grand Turk.
