Flowers, wildlife and heritage conservation
A Madeira is also known as the Island of Flores. The traveler will be surprised to see the large flower of inland and cliffs, that people of color to an island that looks like a jungle in the middle of the ocean. Not surprisingly, the Madeira Natural Park occupies two thirds of the total area of the island, filling the full extent of nature reserves, both terrestrial and marine. Within the native vegetation, it is remarkable the remains of the laurel forests of Madeira. Formerly the island was covered by this species almost entirely, but the Portuguese settlers set fire to the extensions to establish farms and crops. The forests that survived the fire are called relict forests, and have been declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
The volcanic origin of these islands largely explains its complicated topography, its high peaks and steep costs. Although Madeira is a haven of greenery, her sisters are rather deserted islands with sparse vegetation.
However, they also have established nature reserves, mainly from the ocean. Note that Nature Reserve Desert Islands are the ultimate refuge of monk seals or sea lions throughout the Atlantic Ocean on the other hand, the Island Nature Reserve Wild is a veritable bird sanctuary. Partial Reserve Barajas is a marine reserve and are not allowed in it fishing or water activities, so scuba divers will appreciate the presence of huge numbers and blankets and calm, not scared by the human presence …
Porto Santo deserves a mention. Considered a jewel of the Portuguese nation, its sandy beaches are considered beneficial to health, due to the combination of the Atlantic waters to the peculiar composition of the sand (based on remains of marine animals.) But it is the only beach in the archipelago, although it is considered the best. Throughout the length and breadth of the island can find beaches with pebbles and stones, like Funchal, good shoes are our inseparable companions when to drive. The natural pools are almost the best option when taking a dip in the Atlantic, made from natural pools surrounded by rocks, the calm blue waters and warm welcome travelers who love the sea. As a curiosity, indicate that the only yellow sand beach on the island of Madeira is located in Caniçal, and is small.
The monumental and urban heritage is also an important part of the attractions it has to offer Madeira. The capital, Funchal, is where there is greatest concentration of historic buildings and museums, including the Sacred Art Museum or the Quinta das Cruces, with its beautiful park full of ancient and historic elements. For Madeira is an island of parks and gardens, and well worth visiting some of the most beautiful, as Villa Blandy’s Garden or the Monte Palace Tropical Garden, situated in the beautiful village of Monte. This town has been ranked as the Sintra of Madeira in the Portuguese town compared to the Peninsula, for its beauty and its profusion of mansions and historic buildings.
