The Republic of Malta is an archipelago located in southern Italy, in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, Tunisia is located on the east and Libya to the north.

The island of Malta is the largest and most important of the Maltese archipelago, Gozo and Comino are next in importance and are the only three inhabited islands.
