Sardinia is an island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, between Corsica, the Italian Peninsula, Tunisia and the Balearic Islands. It occupies an area of 24,090 km ², an area similar to that of Valencia. It has a population of just over 1,650,000 inhabitants.
The capital of Sardinia is Cagliari, located south of the island. Other important cities are Sassari, Alghero, Porto Torres, Olbia, Tempio Pausania, La Maddalena, Ozieri, Nour, Oristano, and Carbonia Iglesias.

It is typical Mediterranean climate in much of Sardinia, except for some areas inside a climate marked by stiffer. Along the coast, where a large part of the population, mild winters, thanks to the presence of the sea, with rare snow and summers are hot and dry. Inside the island, low humidity and strong gust of wind can easily withstand the high summer temperatures, which can normally reach 35-40 º C. In areas closer to the coast rarely reach such temperatures, but there is a much higher humidity, while the presence of wind makes the heat more bearable.
The island of Sardinia is known for its beautiful beaches and coves with emerald waters, as well as the archaeological remains nuraghic. The nuraghes are the most characteristic buildings of the Sardinian island.
The island was conquered by the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, and finally by the Crown of Aragon.
The tourist areas of the island are the Emerald Coast and Gennargentu. It is the second largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily.
